About Me

My name is Gayle Knowles. I am an experienced former Head of English who has successfully mentored, taught and coached many students through their GCSE and A level English Exams for thirty years. I also have extensive experience of KS3 English and have tutored KS2 students.

Background and Experience

In addition to leading the practice of department colleagues in two large comprehensive schools, I have led a variety of projects to help raise achievement across Rotherham. I also worked in an advisory capacity to the English department of a local school experiencing difficulties.

An enjoyable part of my role in school was as a sixth form tutor, where I mentored students for university interviews and supported them through the application process, from helping them to write their personal statements and preparing portfolios of work through to running mock interviews.

Along with all the above, my experience as an GCSE examiner, Coursework and Controlled Assessment Moderator means that I am well placed to identify the areas where students need to improve to achieve their desired grades.

I have a particular interest in the use of Mindfulness to help reduce exam anxiety, build confidence, and therefore increase a student’s performance not only in their English exams, but across all subjects. Indeed, the practice of Mindfulness is of help in many stressful situations in all areas of life. I have also worked with Prospero Theatre Company in partnership with Mind Fitness, writing webinars and eBooks for schools in Surrey.
